Ella may have been The First Lady of Song, which I certainly wouldn't dispute, but Carmen McRae was The First Lady of Swing. Here's a fine 1979 reading of Jobim's "No More Blues".

UPDATE: According to the "always-authoritative" Wikipedia, NMB may've been the very first bossa nova song, dating back to 1958.
